Juipter is the equivalent of Zeus in the Greek Pantheon, which was King of the Gods. Jupiter is the supreme god of the Roman Pantheon. He is a god of light and sky, and protector of the state and its laws. He is a son of Saturn and brother of Neptune and Juno. He was called Iuppiter or Diespiter, Optimus Maximus “Father God the Best”, he ruled over laws and social order. He was worshipped alongside Juno and Minerva, forming the Capitoline Triad. The sculpture is considered to be a late first century replacement commissioed by Domitian. The Baroque-era restoration of the arms gives Jupiter a baton-like scepter in his raised hand. This beautiful reproduction of Jupiter resembles the original museum marble statue.
