The most characteristic feature in the architecture and decoration of the temple is the Ionic frieze running around the exterior walls of the cella. The Parthenon Frieze is the low relief, pentelic marble sculpture created to adorn the upper part of the Parthenon’s naos. The bas-relief frieze was carved, sculpted between ca. 443 and 438 BC.
